French Foreign Minister Phillipe Douste-Blazy on Friday condemned as "unacceptable" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's latest remarks in which he questioned the existence of the state of Israel.
In a statement announced by Jean-Baptiste Mattei, spokesman of the foreign ministry, Douste-Blazy said that he condemned the Iranian president's "unacceptable" remarks, in which Ahmadinejad called into question once again the existence of the state of Israel.
Meanwhile, French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said Iran could avoid sanctions if it takes positive steps toward resolving questions over its disputed nuclear program.
Ahmadinejad's remarks came as tens of thousands people marched through Tehran in an annual pro-Palestinian protest.
"This regime has lost the reason for its existence, it is disappearing," Ahmadinejad told the protesters.
