"2006 China Tibetan Cultural Week" to be held in Austria

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Sino-Austria diplomatic relations and to commemorate this, the Austrian government has declared this year the "Year of China". The "2006 China Tibetan Culture Week" will be held in Austria between October 18 and 29.

This is the sixth time since 2001 that China has hosted large, integrated Tibetan cultural exchange activities abroad. During this Culture Week, the ancient and colorful culture of Tibet will be on show for the Austrian people in the form of pictures, Thang-kas, music, dance and poetry. Tibet experts and monks will also partake.

Over 200 pictures will be on display; the majority of which are selected works from 150,000 pictures taken by more than a hundred photographers from 19 countries. The remaining 50 photographs were taken by Austrian photographer Stellram when he visited Tibet this year.

The Cultural Week is being hosted by the China International Culture Association, Foreign Cultural Exchange Association of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Austria, the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations, the Austria-China Council for the Promotion of the Economy and other international organizations in Vienna.
