A roadside bomb ripped through a popular market in a town northeast of Baghdad on Thursday, killing seven people and wounding 20 others, local police said.
The blast occurred at about 5:10 p.m. (GMT 1410) in a market in Khalis, some 75 km northeast of the capital, the police source told Xinhua on customary condition of anonymity.
Many women and children were among the casualties, while many shops in the market were also damaged, the source added.
About 20 minutes later, a police station in Kanan area near Baqubah, 60 km northeast of Baghdad, was attacked by a group of gunmen, local police told Xinhua.
The police said that four gunmen were killed and seven others were arrested after the gunbattle.
No report about casualties of the police, the source added.
