Britain has said that the decision of death sentence to Mirza Tahir Hussain, a British national, is an internal matter of Pakistan and the media has misquoted Prime Minister Blair's statement, the website of local newspaper, The News, reported.
The British High Commission in Islamabad said in a statement Thursday that the case was a sovereign matter for Pakistan. British authorities have talked to Islamabad on a high level over the issue, it said.
The statement said that the British government opposes death sentence everywhere in the world however it is an internal matter for Pakistan.
The high commission statement said that Prime Minister Blair's statement has been misrepresented.
Blair on Wednesday said he had made a personal representation over the case to Musharraf during a recent visit to London by the Pakistani ruler.
"I hope even at this stage that there is an intervention to ensure this does not take place. I think it would be very serious if it does," Blair said when asked about the case in the House of Commons.
