European weather satellite launch postponed second time

четверг, 19 октября 2006 05:01:03

The lift-off of a European weather satellite from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan has been delayed for another day due to bad weather, Baikonur officials said on Wednesday.

"Takeoff was canceled due to bad conditions in the upper atmosphere," the official was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

The Metop-A European weather satellite, aboard a Soyuz-2 rocket, was originally scheduled to lift off at 8:28 p.m. Moscow time ( 1628 GMT) on Tuesday.

Specialists found out a malfunction two minutes before the Tuesday launch because of which the launch was postponed for 24 hours.
