Ugandan track queen Dorcus Inzikuru has bounced back in style to win the 4,000m Giro Podistico di Pettinengo race in Italy over the weekend.
The world and Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion put up an impressive finish crossing the tape in a time of 12:51, ahead of home girl Michela Zanatta and Kenya's Solome Semotwo.
Inzikuru's dominance began right at the starting point, and she gave no sniff to Zanatta and Semotwo till the finishing line, which saw the two both finished in a time of 12:56.
"It was a brilliant come back and indeed a nice finish. This is a better warm up ahead of the coming championships," said Flavio Pasqualato, the Italian coach of the world champion.
The race was Inzikuru's first major international race after her triumph at the Uganda Road Running Championships in Iganga last month.
Inzikuru had planned to run in the women's 20km race at the first World Road Running championships in Hungary earlier this month, but later dropped out.
Uganda has secured double victory in the Italian event as the National Road Running champion Wilson Busienei Kipkemei won the men's 10,000m race in 26:38, just one second ahead of Qatar's Shami Mubarak Hassan.
