China plans to build about 500 to 600 kilometers of urban track transport in the next five years with a total investment of some 170 billion yuan (or 21.2 billion US dollars ), said Vice Minister of Construction Huang Wei at the country's first forum on key technologies of urban track communication held recently in Nanjing, the capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.
It is learned that light rail transit service network has already been introduced to 10 major cities around China. Another five cities have been approved to lay urban tracks, and plans are being made in more cities to develop urban light rail transit service projects.
