Zambian minister welcomes appointment of new UN chief

вторник, 17 октября 2006 04:19:05

Zambia's Information Minister Vernon Mwaanga has welcomed Ban Ki-moon's being appointed as United Nations (UN) secretary general to succeed Kofi Annan as from January 1, 2007

"It is a welcome move to have a South Korean as secretary general," Mwaanga was quoted by Monday's newspaper The Post as saying in an interview.

Mwaanga hoped Ban would live up to his own promises of being his own person but push for a reform agenda and equitable representation on the Security Council.

He commended out-going UN Secretary General Kofi Annan for the many things he had done for the world body.
