Thai PM to visit Malaysia, seeks cooperation on unrest

понедельник, 16 октября 2006 13:30:04

Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont will make a one-day visit to Malaysia Wednesday aiming to strengthen ties and to discuss unrest in Thailand's far South, Government Spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said on Monday.

The main issue expected to be focused on in the meeting between the Thai premier and his Malaysian counterpart is the unrest in Thailand's ethnic Malay Muslim provinces bordering Malaysia, in which Thailand seeks cooperation from its neighbor to end it.

In meeting Malaysian prime minister Abdullah Badawi and several cabinet members including deputy prime minister and defense minister Najib Razak, Surayud and his entourage will also explain the post-coup situation in Thailand, the spokesman said.

Surayud, appointed Thailand's 24th prime minister early this month, has already made one day trips to Laos and Cambodia respectively during the past weekend.
