More ancient tombs excavated in Luoyang

More tombs in the ruins of the East Zhou Dynasty capital city, in Henan province in central China, have been excavated and many cultural relics have been recovered. A total of 95 ancient tombs have been discovered so far.

Zhou King Ping moved his capital to Luoyi (now Luoyang city) in 770 BC, and it was known as the Capital City of the East Zhou Dynasty. Some 25 kings ruled there for 515 years.

At Hennan Luoyang Square in 2002, 397 tombs and 18 Horse and Chariot Pits were found and East Zhou Dynasty Royal Horse and Chariot Pits were excavated for the first time.

It is believed that of the 98 tombs at the ruins of the Capital City of the East Zhou, only one tomb is from the Han Dynasty and two from the Qin Dynasty.
