Two American marines were killed during a military operation in western Iraq on Sunday, the U.S. military announced in a statement on Monday.
"Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died on Oct. 15 from enemy action while operating in Al-Anbar Province," the military said in the statement.
The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.
About 2,755 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count.
