Hamas denies reports saying it considers attacking U.S. interests

понедельник, 16 октября 2006 05:22:07

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Sunday has rejected earlier reports which said that the governing movement has considered attacking American interests in the Middle East.

Khalil Abu Laila, a Hamas leader in Gaza, expressed the rejection following U.S.-based Time magazine on Saturday reported that Hamas extremists would target U.S. interests in the Middle East since Washington leads efforts to topple the Hamas-led government.

Abu Laila told reporters that these accusations were baseless and fall within "the creative solutions that the U.S. Secretary of State mentioned to fight Hamas and the Palestinian people's government."

"Definitely, we do not strike outside the occupied Palestine, this is Hamas policy and I confirm our Jihad (Holy War) would not be outside the occupied land of Palestine," Abu Laila asserted.

For the Palestinians' internal trouble, Abu Laila reiterated that implementing the articles of the Prisoners' Document "is the only fair and honest exit out from the crisis."

He also called for forming a unity government based on the Document which includes two-state solution for the Israeli- Palestinian conflict.

"If we formed a national unity government and reformed the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), I think we will defuse tension and the crisis in the Palestinian Territories," the Hamas leader added.
