понедельник, 16 октября 2006 04:24:11

Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has assured the new United Nations secretary- general of his country's full support and readiness to work with the UN chief in attaining the noble goals of the international institution.

The Tanzanian president made this assurance in a congratulatory statement released on Saturday by the State House.

President Kikwete said that Tanzanians believe under the wise and dynamic leadership of Ban Ki-Moon, the United Nations will be further strengthened, democratized and will become more effective.

He said that the South Korean's election to the UN secretary- general position had demonstrated the respect and confidence that member states including Tanzania have in him.

Ban Ki-Moon has been serving as South Korea's foreign and trade minister before his election to serve as the UN chief.
