Macao recorded 233,993 package tourist arrivals in August, a year-on-year drop of 8.3 percent, according to official statistics issued here on Friday.
The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that the majority of package visitors came in the month from the Chinese mainland (178,315), Taiwan (15,585) and Hong Kong (11,258).
The SCS statistics also showed that the number of Macao's hotel rooms reached 11,791 at the end of August, up 11.8 percent over the same month of last year.
Hotel guests accounted for 41.1 percent of the total number of tourists in the first eight months, according to the statistics.
Analysts due the low hotel-room occupancy rate mainly to the high room charges.
